Consumer Rights & Conformity

Last updated: 1 November 2026

Consumer-rights note: A supplier or commercial “warranty” is not the same thing as the seller's statutory obligations to a consumer.

Two-year conformity rights in Latvia

For sales governed by Latvian consumer law, the consumer may raise a claim for non-conformity within two years from delivery. PTAC states that these statutory rights apply to new, used and repaired goods.

Used and refurbished devices

The condition description matters. Known defects should be disclosed before sale. A seller cannot simply erase statutory conformity rights by labelling a device “used” or by printing a shorter warranty period.

Commercial warranties

Any additional commercial warranty should clearly identify who provides it, its duration, territory, exclusions and claim process. It must not be presented in a way that suggests mandatory statutory rights are reduced.

Remedies

The remedy for a non-conforming product depends on applicable law and circumstances. The final customer-service process should be built around the statutory hierarchy and PTAC guidance applicable to the sale.
